Context

CentraleSupélec is a leading French ‘Grande École’ and a public research university. It operates under the joint authority of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research and the Ministry of Industry. Its core missions include educating high‑level global and specialised engineers, Bachelor’s and Master of Science, conducting cutting‑ edge research in engineering and systems sciences, and providing continuing professional education programs. As part of its development in teaching CentraleSupélec is opening a 1‑year teaching‑focused Lecturer position in Computer Science in the Computer Science Department.

The Computer Science Department contributes to teaching across the full breadth of the discipline, in all Centra‑ leSupélec programs as well as in Master’s programs of Université Paris‑Saclay, and in continuing education.

Teaching responsabilities

The recruited candidate will join the Computer Science Department of CentraleSupélec and will work prima‑ rily within the Bachelor program AIDAMS « AI, Data & Management Sciences ». This Bachelor program, run in partnership with ESSEC, is located across several campuses in the Paris region. The main mission of the recrui‑ ted candidate will be to teach Computer Science courses of the Bachelor program at both CentraleSupélec and ESSEC sites. The teaching load corresponds to a full‑time position, i.e., 384 equivalent tutorial hours (HETD) per year, spread over the academic year. The candidate may supplement their service through other Bachelor programs, the engineering programs, and the Master programs in which the School participates.

The recruited candidate will be responsible for designing and delivering several courses across the four years of the AIDAMS Bachelor program. They will teach all of these courses in plenary sessions. They will build and lead a team of instructors to implement the various pedagogical activities. They will define and update the learning outcomes of these courses, the pedagogical methods to be deployed, and produce the corresponding mate‑ rials. They will also serve for Computer Science courses in other CentraleSupélec programs as required. They must also be able to collaborate with CentraleSupélec’s corporate partners. Teaching in the Bachelor program is conducted exclusively in English.

The successful candidate must be able to quickly become proficient across a broad spectrum of computer science fields : programming, algorithmics, computer architecture, operating systems, object‑oriented pro‑ gramming, software architecture, and artificial intelligence. This versatility is essential to ensure coherent teaching across the four years of the Bachelor program. Beyond course delivery, the successful candidate will proactively contribute to the design of courses and the articulation of the program.

Finally, they must have the ability to foster student engagement. They will identify and mobilize appropriate resources to motivate students, in particular by developing a project‑based approach that grounds learning in concrete achievements and promotes student autonomy.

The successful candidate must demonstrate openness and contribute to diverse teaching teams. To ensure teaching quality, they will maintain communication with the Bachelor program director and the Head of the Computer Science Department. Beyond the computer science program, they will contribute to defining the expectations and topics covered during activities dedicated to engineering sciences within the Bachelor’s cur‑ riculum.

Team Dynamics and Management

The selected candidate will join a multi‑disciplinary team dedicated to the success of the international Bachelor programs, working under the academic coordination of the direction leading the Bachelor, and in close colla‑ boration with the Director of the Computer Science Department.

Qualifications and Experience

—    A doctorate in Computer Science is preferred; applications from holders of a Master’s degree with at least five years of high‑level professional or teaching experience in the field will also be considered.

—    Solid knowledge of the core areas of Computer Science, in particular Python programming, algorithmics, computer architecture, operating systems, object‑oriented programming, and software architecture.

—    Professional proficiency in English.

—    Proven experience in instructional design : course syllabus development, assessment methods, digital learning resources (Moodle, EdTech tools).

—    Genuine enthusiasm for teaching and teamwork.

—    Ability to interact with CentraleSupélec’s corporate partners, for example, through industry‑linked pro‑ jects or internship supervision.

InterviewProcess

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an interview, which consists of three stages, allowing us to assess your suitability for the position :

—    Candidates will present their academic background and their teaching projects.

—    Each candidate will demonstrate their teaching skills by presenting a lesson in English, addressing a common problem specified in the audition invitation.

 —    Candidates will then respond to questions from the committee members.

The interview invitations will state the duration for each stage.
